An Ideal Cart for Inflatable Kayaks, 2008-12-20
The Pacific Outdoors Kayak and Canoe Carrier arrived on time, in perfect condition. I was apprehensive while waiting for it to arrive given the low price. However, that concern was wasted. It's a solid piece of equipment, well engineered. Simple in design -- in the good sense.
I've used the cart 12 times to carry my inflatable kayak from my parked car to the put-in site on the water. None of those ventures have been over rough ground. Usually a combination of concrete and flat grass. So I can't comment on how the cart would perform over rough terrain.
But it's been ideal for my purposes. I inflate my Advanced Elements Expedition kayak beside the car, load it with safety equipment, water, lunch, camping gear, and so on. Then slip the Pacific Outdoors cart under the rear of the kayak, just behind the cockpit. The key is to have the wheels as close to straight forward as possible. Then use one of the long black straps provided to go over the kayak, and around the frame of the cart on each side. It's important to cinch down the straps so the kayak is firmly attached to the cart.
Once at the put-in site, I remove the wheels from the cart with the simple-but-effective fasteners and stow both wheels behind the cockpit of the kayak. The cart frame then fits nicely on the rear of the boat where I cinch it down with bungee cord.
Fearing I would lose one or both of the fasteners for the wheels, I telephoned Pacific Outdoors to buy an extra pair. They were most accommodating, and even sent the extra pair free of charge! A surprise.
I therefore highly recommend this inexpensive but sturdy cart to others who have inflatable kayaks that are just a bit too heavy to carry in a bag from the car to the put-in site.

wimpy, 2008-08-20
I at least will be able to use this carrier to move one half of my 40 pound rowing shell. If you intend to approach the stated capacity of this carrier do so only on clean pavement. High clearence and light weight can be design flaws.

Flat land only, 2008-08-13
Works fine on flat land - impossible on an incline (heading uphill) as it kept collapsing while trying to load the canoe (14'); seems kick stand is way too short. I ended up having to use an old Helly Hansen roller to get the canoe to the flat, then the carrier was fine. In hindsight I should have gotten a sturdier model due to the circumstances.

Canoe Carrier (Hauler), 2008-08-11
The canoe carrier worked great. I live around 200 yards from our lake and had to load the canoe in the back of my van to get to the water. Now I just grab the end of the canoe with one hand and walk to the lake. Loading and unloading is a snap. The only problem was, I had to improvise with the straps provided because my canoe is too wide to use the straps as instructed. Love it.

cable routing wrong, 2008-07-24
When I received the product it was obvious the cable routing was wrong. There are no clear pictures of the cable routing and attachment and no mention of a cable in the supplied assembly, operating and safety instructions. I emailed Pacific-Cycle customer service and attached pictures. They acknowledged the cable was wrong but their reply as to how it should be routed was jibberish.
The box it was shipped in was torn and damaged but luckily all the parts were still in the box.
