Hey Guys,
I am new to this forum, and I have an obsession with ship wrecks and underwater structure. I have been entertaining the idea of buying a side scan sonar unit to help me find wrecks and structure for fishing off the jersey coast. I dont know much about them and after doing a bunch of searches on the internet I am even more confused. Most of the time I will be in ocean waters from 50 foot up to 200 foot deep and will be searching for shipwrecks, rock formations and other structure that will hold fish . I have been searching online for a while and have seen them go from 30,000 dollars to 1000.00 dollars. While the more expensive units are way out of my price range does anyone have any experience with the units on the cheaper side. If so how much do I have to spend to get a unit that would work best for my needs and how hard are they to operate can anyone recomend one . From what I am reading online it seems that a towfish would be the best way to go.
Any help anyone can give me will be greatly appricated.
Thanks
Doug
