Is there a list of salilors that lost their life on the lakes ,between 1858-1890?

I am doing research on the family name of lucas. he lived in ashtabula,ohio and did some kind of work on the lakes. the census records of 1850 say he is a carpenter. then he is listed as sailor on a civil war register. i can not find any info. on him. his name is joseph blakeslee lucas b.1823 in vermont.married elizabeth j tyler in 1850.had children until 1858 and then i believe he went on the lakes.
