One of the largest marble quarries in the world is located just south of Burlington Vermont.(Lake Champlain) The marble was shipped all over the United States and was used to build the White House, Capital building and many others. Many barges and ships would have transported marble via the Hudson river. A collision or bad weather would have sent vessels to the bottom quickly. It would be difficult to locate a name without knowing the type of vessel and approximate date of loss. If you have a ballpark date of the sinking you might get some information from old newspapers or shipping loss lists.
